Grail MoonKAM Images

Research Group images taken during the Grail MoonKAM project can be seen here. These are images taken by the satellites Ebb and Flow as they orbit the moon. The students requested the latitude and longitude for each photo. More information on the project can be seen here.

Lego Mindstorm NXT Robotics

We have commenced Research Group for this semester with a focus on Lego Robotics. During my trip to Honeywell Advanced Educators in the USA our team was fortunate enough to have some serious instruction in using Lego Mindstorms robotics equipment. As teachers we had a fun, challenging and rewarding time; I'm sure it will be the same for our students who were very enthusiastic during the first session.

National Science Week 11-19 August

It's National Science Week from 11-19 August and MOPS has joined in this annual celebration of science and its wonders. Just think of the recent successful landing and these images from the Mars Curiosity Rover to see how rewarding, stimulating and challenging science can be. This Wednesday K-6 classes will be examining, investigation, testing and questioning in the spirit of science. Ask your child what they have been up to!

K/1B Term 3 Week 5

We are midway through the term and as usual there is much to report on. This week we have commenced maths groups across K-2 on Monday and Tuesday. Students are grouped based on the TEN program and receive targeted small group instruction in numeracy with Mr Bramsen, Ms Sinton or Mrs Myers. We continue to focus on strands such as space, measurement and data on Weds-Fri.

K/1 Science Centre Excursion

K/1B and K/1 S had a fun and engaging excursion to the Wollongong Science Centre and Planetarium last Tuesday. The students watched a colourful laser show with well known songs in the planetarium before enjoying the hands-on and interactive exhibits in the upper and lower science hall. Students moved freely between activities and explored dinosaurs, energy and movement, building objects, robots, space and everything in between. A Bubbles and Balloons show followed and the bubbles were BIG!
