Term 3 news from 1/2H

It's August already? This year is really flying by.  We thought it was time that we updated our blog, to let you know what 1/2H is getting up to in term 3.

In Genius Time, we are completing mini challenges. Each week, Mrs Hamers is setting a creative task, designed to engage the imagination. For the first challenge, we collected leaves from the playground. We had to use the leaves to create a piece of art that showed a living thing. The finished pictures included leaf animals, people and trees. They were great! The second challenge involved paddlepop sticks. Each student was given a collection of paddlepop sticks and was asked to make something with them. The sticks could be cut, coloured, taped or glued. Other materials could be added as well. Once again, everyone's imaginations were really on display. (It was also great to see family members get in on the act during Education Week Open Day and help out with the creations!)  If you'd like to see our photos, go here. (Our movie from semester 1 is there too.) This week's challenge will involve pipe cleaners.

In HSIE, we are studying a unit on Shelter, while in Science, our topic is called Changes. In reading groups, we have been busy in the engine room and we've been working on descriptive writing too. In maths, we've been exploring fact families and have just started looking at place value. It's always busy in our classroom.

Now, a request. It's great to see so many of our students bringing in their home readers to change each day. At the beginning of the year, some parents offered to help with the changing of these readers, which was greatly appreciated. We realise that parents lead busy lives, but we now have some vacancies on our reader changing roster and wonder if anyone could help out. We'd love some help on Wednesdays and Fridays. If you could spare a few minutes at either the beginning or end of the day, it would be fantastic! Please let us know if you're interested.

Finally, our Twitter page is always brimming with comments, photos and work samples for you to look at. If you haven't checked it out recently, why not go to: https://twitter.com/ClassPencil Alternatively, you could visit the class blog: http://kidblog.org/mops/ This week, the topic is parents, so you might like to leave  a comment! (A reminder that parent names are required on the blog too, just for security.)

Enjoy the last month of Winter!
